Palestinian Students

First Lutheran has joined a very exciting new, multi-church project to bring two young Palestinian men here to Fargo to attend school at Oak Grove Lutheran School. Eighteen-year-old George Zoughbi arrived in Fargo in Sept 2002 accompanied by his father Michael. The other brother Jad is still waiting to receive his papers that will allow him to leave the country.

At the Oct 10, 2002 meeting of Global Missions we were happy to have Michael Zoughbi and Arlend Jacobson of CHARIS join us to help inform us about the situation in Bethlehem and the status of the Zoughbi boys. These young men are from Bethlehem and their family has been Melchite Christians for many centuries. Due to the extreme unrest in this part of the world for the past year, the young people have not been able to attend school and spend most of their time at home under strict curfew dictated by the Israeli government. For these reasons Michael Zoughbi contacted friends in North Dakota to ask if help could be found to bring his sons to study here. He is very grateful for all the assistance he and his sons have received.

First Lutheran has pledged $1000 towards this project so far.
