
Nursery Assistant
Purpose
The nursery assistant provides hands-on loving care to infants and toddlers and preschoolers, allowing their parents to attend worship services and other events with the knowledge that their children are safe and secure in the church nursery.
Responsible to: Nursery Coordinator
Description of duties
§ Rock, love, and play with infants and toddlers during worship services and other church events.
§ Help children learn to share with each other and learn to play together.
§ Change diapers and assist those who are potty trained.
§ Make Nursery Coordinator aware of supplies, equipment, or toys that are in need of repair, replacement, or cleaning. Assist the Nursery Coordinator in the cleaning and organizing of the Nursery.
§ Be in the Nursery at the designated arrival time.
§ Notify Nursery Coordinator as soon as possible in case of absence; attempt to find a substitute from the approved list of other nursery workers.
§ Follow appropriate health procedures when dealing with diapers, toilet training, and illness-related accidents.
§ Follow appropriate safety and security procedures, including submitting to screening methods and/or criminal background checks.
Time requirements
Must be available to work on Sunday mornings and rotate Wednesday evenings. Occasional Tuesdays and Thursdays. Approximately 5-7 hours per week.
Training and resources
§ Receive on-the-job training from the Nursery Coordinator.
§ Attend training scheduled by the Nursery Coordinator.
Qualifications, skills, and gifts
§ CPR Certified
§ Able to bend, lift up to 25 lbs, sit on the floor for extended periods of time
§ Supportive of other church staff and volunteers.
§ Committed to the mission, vision, values, and beliefs of the church.
§ Evidence of a Christ-like attitude in words and actions.
§ Team-oriented—able to work with a team of volunteers.
§ A heart and passion for children and patience in dealing with them.
§ Excellent communication skills.
§ Able to work with a wide variety of “constituents”: co-workers, parents and grandparents, children.
§ Complies with a background check.
