Faithfully Fit Forever
Our Health Ministry Committee is again sponsoring our Faithfully Fit Forever program. FFF is a program of health promotion that focuses on the body, mind and spirit. It consists of warm-up & stretching activites, low impact aerobic exercise, strength training and cool down activities, followed by a health education topic and devotions. Exercise helps to increase our energy level, reduces health risks, strengthens the body & heart, boosts the mind, increases balance capability, and also helps us to sleep better. FFF is geared toward women and men over age 55 and is also appropriate for anyone who has not been participating in regular physical activity for a variety of reasons. There is no charge or registration required! We meet in the gym from
4:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Mondays, beginning September 13.
Please join us whenever it fits your schedule and bring a friend! All are welcome! Call Dixie at 235-7389 if you have any questions or concerns.

Scandia Suppers
Every second Monday of each month, a free, homemade meal is served to the guests staying at the Scandia Hotel, which is across the street from MeritCare.

BeFriender Ministry

BeFrienders are volunteer lay ministers who provide pastoral care. That means specially trained lay persons enter into caring relationships with others at times of special need by visiting them and being with them to offer emotional and spiritual support.
BeFrienders accept people as they are without telling them how they ought to be, they listen with compassion without giving advice, and they allow others to make their own decisions without trying to decide for them.
To learn more or to request a BeFriender visit, contact Ruth Hanson, Parish Nurse or Pr.  Dale Vitalis at
235-7389.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
“Compassion and the love of knitting/crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice which reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy. Many blessings are prayed into every shawl.”
“Prayer shawls wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. Those who have received shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles...”
Janet Bristow

The Prayer Shawl Ministry at First Lutheran Church was initiated in 2005 under the leadership of Loretta Lambrecht, Parish Nurse Coordinator. It is based on the program developed by Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo.
About 20 First Lutheran Church women, ages 20-80+ have been crocheting or knitting prayer shawls which are given to members in need of a special touch of love. The women weave prayers of comfort and healing into the shawls as they create them. Members who receive the shawls report feeling the unconditional love and healing presence of God. Heartwarming thank you cards and a deepening of their own prayer life are benefits that prayer shawl members readily share during their monthly gatherings.
In 2009, this caring ministry provided unique prayer shawls to 107 adults and children, and baptismal shawls to 86 infants. Infant baptismal shawls are pure white, while adult and child shawls are made in many colors and patterns.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry group meets monthly at 2:00 p.m. on the 4th Thursday of each month, excluding the summer months. All who love to knit or crochet are welcome to join. For more information, contact Ruth Hanson, Parish Nurse Coordinator at 235-7389.
