BeFriender Ministry
Health Ministry is sponsoring BeFriender Ministry, which is a lay pastoral care program.
BeFrienders are volunteer lay ministers who provide pastoral care to people in difficult and transitional situations, such as illness, loneliness, or loss of a loved one. They embody the caring presence of God and of the community, and serve as a living reminder of God’s love.
BeFrienders are trained to provide a listening presence to others not to be expert in whatever situation they encounter.
BeFrienders are trained to provide compassionate, empathetic care.
BeFrienders accept people as they are without giving advice, and allow others to make their own decisions without trying to decide for them.
If you would like to know more about how you can become a trained BeFriender at First Lutheran or would like a visit from a BeFriender, please contact Ruth Hanson, Parish Nurse at 235-7389.
