Some
Frequently Asked Questions By
Prospective Members:
I'm already a Lutheran. Do I have to attend the new member
session?
No, you get to attend the session! We intend the session to be
more that just getting a refresher course on Lutheran theology.
Instead, there will be time for you to begin becoming a part of
First Lutheran Church: to meet other people in the session, to
meet the staff, to learn about the many opportunities First
Lutheran offers, and to discover the ways that your God-given
gifts and interests can help others.
What if I can't make it to the new member session?
If you are unable to attend, you will need to make an
appointment with a pastor prior to the session.
What if I am Roman Catholic or Methodist or Presbyterian
or...?
Lutherans recognize and accept the rite of baptism,
confirmation, and marriage performed in all Christian churches.
We hope that through the course of the new member session you
will discover the similarities between Lutheranism and your
background. This is one way we realize the unity in Christ we
confess together. We also hope, though, that you will come to
appreciate the distinctively Lutheran aspects of our tradition
and theology.
I want to be involved in First Lutheran, but I'm not sure I
want to drop my membership at my home congregation.
That's okay. You can join us as an Associate Member. This allows
you to remain a member of your home congregation but still
participate in the congregational life of First Lutheran.
However, an Associate Member does not have voting privileges.
I don't have any other church membership and don't know that
much about Christianity. Is this a problem?
Not at all! We welcome you, and we're glad that First Lutheran
can play a part in your life of faith. Perhaps you have already
seen a little bit of what being a Christian is about through
your experiences at First Lutheran. This session, then, will be
a chance for you to start learning more about the Christian
faith.
Thank you for your inquiry about membership at First Lutheran
Church. Requirements for membership are: baptism, attendance at
the new member session, and completion of the membership
information letter.
We are excited about all that God has in store for us as we work
together to fulfill the mission of First Lutheran Church, “to
bring people into a relationship with Jesus Christ and to help
them grow in the Christian faith.”
We look forward to getting to know you through our new member
series of sessions which begins on Wednesday, January 9th, 2008
continuing with a session each Wednesday evening up to and
including Wednesday, January 30th, 2008. This series will
begin at 6:45pm and will be centered on Lutheranism. Also
included is a supper and a tour taking place on Sunday,
January 27th, 2008 from 5:00-7:00pm. A
casual supper will be served. Nursery care will be available for
children three years and under. Reception of new members will be
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008.
In the meantime, please enjoy all of the wonderful activities
