Home Sweet Home Project

Home Sweet Home Project

Feeling blessed to have such a beautiful church home, and wanting to develop more opportunities to serve our downtown neighbors, a First Lutheran downtown ministry team met with The Salvation Army throughout the summer. An opportunity was quickly identified to help individuals and families transitioning to permanent homes by providing them with welcome baskets, as well as supporting them with prayers, and possibly mentorship. The project team is excited because this type of support has been shown to increase the transition success rate out of poverty, and is an excellent opportunity to share our congregation’s compassion, gifts, and talents in the downtown community.

As members of our congregation, we ask for your prayerful consideration of supporting this effort, named the Home Sweet Home Project. There are many dimensions to our involvement, and we hope that there is a part of the project that encourages you to share your gifts and talents.

How you can help:

  • Pray for the individuals and families in transition.
  • Purchase Home Sweet Home kits (approximate cost of $125).
  • Donate below to the Home Sweet Home Fund (or checks to FLC - note Home Sweet Home in the memo line).
  • Provide coaching and/or mentoring support as needed.
  • Be an encouraging and supportive friend.

We are excited to continue our relationship with The Salvation Army in this way and to be good downtown neighbors to those in need. As the project evolves, we will communicate available opportunities.

With gratitude and anticipation for sweet and successful homecomings,

Rollie JohnsonFLC Outreach Director
