He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, receiving his BA in Religion and Psychology. Upon graduation, Marty attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul, graduating in 1998 with a MDIV. More recently, he completed his Doctor of Ministry degree in the area of Congregational Mission and Leadership through Luther Seminary. Pastor Marty has served two congregations in North Dakota: Calvary Lutheran in Grand Forks and First Lutheran in Fargo. The past five years he has been the lead pastor at First Lutheran Church in Fremont, Nebraska.
