Raising kids is one of the hardest jobs out there, and it is also one of the most important. At First, we believe that one of our callings as a faith community is to come alongside families and support, encourage and equip them in this most holy of tasks. We have put in place a comprehensive Christian education program that is centered on Christ and based on relationships. The following is an overview of our children, youth and family programs.
- FaithTalk: For children 4th grade and under: Katie Kringstad, Director of Children's Ministry, firstname.lastname@example.org
- CrossTalk and Servant Leadership Academy: For students 5th-9th grade: Meggie DeJong, Middle School Director, email@example.com
- For students 10th-12th grade: Erik Carlson, Youth Director, firstname.lastname@example.org
- Additional questions: Pr. Laurie Neill, Family Life Pastor, email@example.com
Nursery (0-5 years)
The purpose of FLC Nursery is to provide a safe, loving, fun and comfortable environment for both you and your child. It is open during worship and for special events and Bible studies. If you would like to volunteer for the nursery, contact Shelly Erickson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
FaithTalk (3 years - 4th Grade)
FaithTalk is all about the Bible. Our story based curriculum takes students through all the major stories of the Bible in 6 years– that’s how many years a child is in the program! Our rotation model of learning seeks to capture all learning styles. We don't just talk about the stories: they're also seen, touched, tasted, and acted out! FaithTalk is offered Sundays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6 p.m.
CrossTalk (5th - 6th Grade)
CrossTalk takes kids deeper into the Bible, themselves, and each other. Using SparkHouse’s "Connect" curriculum, we take our students deeper into the Bible stories and teach them to ask questions about faith- and find answers! Covering the whole Bible in two years, we’ll discuss how it relates to our lives as well as where to find it in scripture! The key components of our program are community building, prayer and Bible navigation. Bring your Bible and join the party! This class is offered Sundays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m.in the CrossTalk Café.
Servant Leadership Academy (7th - 9th Grade)
Servant Leadership Academy at First Lutheran Church helps people explore, engage and encounter faith as they study side by side with people of all ages. The goal is not to reach a destination; the goal is the journey itself.
The opportunities offered in this Academy resemble the university model of “credits,” which we call “steps.”
After completing the 40 steps of Servant Leadership Academy, participants will be able to articulate their faith by creating a personal mission statement, defining their values, and establishing practices in their daily lives. Participants will also be encouraged to publicly celebrate this segment of their journey through the Rite of Confirmation.
Servant Leadership Academy is offered for all members of First Lutheran Church, but it is also used as our Confirmation program.
High School Youth Group (9th - 12th Grade)
Youth Group is an opportunity for high school students to be supported and encouraged in their growing relationship with the Lord. We meet Wednesdays at 7 p.m., unless otherwise noted, for Bible Study, Service Nights, and just plain fun! Never let the cost of an event keep you from attending. If you have any questions or have a request for financial assistance for an event, let Erik Carlson know, email@example.com. Friends are always welcome and encouraged!
