Perfect Score

by Katie Kringstad

I recently was at a Bible study by Priscilla Shirer called Discerning the Voice of God. At the end of the study she told a story and it went something like this:

“Two women were talking, and the one woman was telling the other that she had gone bowling and that she had gotten a perfect score. The other woman couldn’t believe it as it is almost impossible to get a perfect score in bowling and she knew that her friend didn’t even bowl often. She questioned her friend on this and her friend said in response, well I walked halfway up the ally, so I was very close to the pins making it easy to get a perfect score. The next time she went bowling she decided to stay at regulation length and this time she didn’t even get close to a perfect score! You see this story of bowling is just like our relationship with God. The closer we are to God the better we are doing in life. The farther and farther away from God we get, the more errors we make.”

When I heard this story, it made so much sense. When our lives start to feel like error after error, we should take a moment to stop and look at where we are in relationship to God. Are we close to God or have we wandered farther away? God wants us close to him. Take today as an opportunity to take one step closer to God.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
- Matthew 11:27-28

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
- James 4:8

“But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.”
- Psalm 73:28

Have a blessed week,
