Last Saturday, Rollie called me and asked me a very strange question. He asked me if I could be Dolly Parton for him on Sunday. Actually, we were singing a song called “There Was Jesus” by Zach Williams featuring Dolly Parton, and he asked me if I could sing her part. Now I had not heard this song before Saturday, so I grabbed it on my Spotify app, and played it over and over to learn the harmonies and descants. It is a fantastic song musically, but lyrically it blows me away.

This is the first verse and chorus of the song. One of the reasons this song resonates with me is it reminds me a lot of my favorite verse in the whole Bible.
It reminds me a lot of Romans 8:38-39, "For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
This verse says it all for me. No matter what we have been through in our lives, God was with us. No matter what we are currently going through in our lives, God is with us. No matter what we will ever go through, God will be with us. Through all our ups and downs, our ins and outs and our upside-downs and inside-outs God is with us. There is nothing that has been nor ever will be that can separate you from God. Any time I need a boost in my faith, or if I am feeling down or alone, I read this verse.
Thanks to Rollie introducing this song to me, I now will also be able to listen to this song and hear that message: nothing can separate you from Jesus. He is always there for us saying, “I love you” into our ears. If we ever feel like he is not, that is most certainly our own doing.
