What the World Needs Now

by Shelly Erickson

"What the World Needs Now Is Love" was a  popular 1965 song with lyrics by Hal David and music composed by Burt Bacharach.

What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No not just for some but for everyone.

As a little girl growing up in small town Minnesota in the 1960s I was somewhat aware of the tragedies and unrest happening in our country and our world. However my world was pretty simple and sweet. As I remembered this song I also remember dancing and singing this song with my mom while she ironed. What the world needs now is love, sweet love, no not just for some but for everyone.

Today, I was thinking about all the tragedies and unrest happening in our world today. That's when this song came to mind. I realized what the world needed in 1965, the world still needs 2020 and will always need.

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.
John 13:34

Love one another.
You don't even have to agree.
Love one another.
You are a child of God.
So is the person who thinks differently than you.
Love one another.
Love one another.
Love one another.

We all need to be loved, not just some but everyone. God's love is inclusive. It is for everyone. Love one another.
